Performatives New Music Concert

31.Mai 2025 -  20:00 - Ev. Kirche Martin Luther Neukölln

Z comes from the land of the Bosporus. Her roommate in Berlin has little time, but she wants to get to know Z. Z tries to speak her language because her roommate doesn't speak any other language. It is difficult to improvise in a foreign language. The sounds of the city that Z leaves behind are reborn in the new city. The chaotic rhythms of old Istanbul meet the polyphonic soul of the Berlin she has just entered. Music and words search for each other. 42 minutes are an adventure in time.

We will also celebrate our collective Opera Now after the concert. The audience are welcome.

WAS MALST DU DA?

Workshop - Eine szenografische Annäherung an Oper für Kinder im Vorschulalter

from 2025

The project idea emerged from the artistic practice of Asli Ersüzer Sökmen, who works in interdisciplinary opera and theater productions and engages deeply with perception and space as culturally constructed phenomena. Observing that children actively create their environment through imaginative processes inspired her to develop a workshop that enables an early encounter with opera and scenography – as an aesthetic, spatial, and social experience.

NO ONE'S CITY

2026

No One’s City is an immersive VR storytelling experience that follows the journey of X, a young newcomer recently arrived in the city of B. Set on their first day alone in the city, the experience uses the tools of interactive, multiplayer performance to explore how migrant identity and affect shape the possibilities of self-narration—situated between individuality and community—through the lens of the VR body. That day, X begins to hear a mysterious voice calling her, leading her on a quest across the city. As she moves through unfamiliar streets, she perceives a unique symphony of sounds—from the stories of other immigrants to the subtle murmurs of the urban landscape. The project reimagines migration as a source of skill and resilience, highlighting how X’s experiences grant her a heightened sense of hearing that unveils the city’s hidden narratives. By embodying X’s perspective, the audience feels the city come alive, revealing the complex relationship between humans and their environment. Through her ears, we offer a resonant, immersive understanding of migration..

BERLIN ZAMANI//ZEIT FÜR BERLIN

New Opera about/for New Wave People

2026

The political and social events of recent years have triggered waves of emigration in many countries. In Turkey as well, many secular young people have contemplated emigration. Germany, and particularly Berlin, have become a destination for this wave of migration, and the young Turks who stayed here became known as the "New Wave." Renowned playwright Ceren Ercan and award-winning composer Emre Dündar address the topic of emigration, which has significantly increased among secular Turks over the past 10 years, in their opera "Berlin Zamanı/Time for Berlin."
